Inspired by the complex harmonies, expansive stylistic blend and high-energy sound of icons like mambo inventor Israel “Cachao” Lopez and bandleader\/composer Tito Rodriguez, Mas Mamones wove Afro-Caribbean rhythms and and jazz improvisation into fresh arrangements of classic tunes and unique originals. Their sound was a welcome addition to a scene where Afro-Cuban influences have played a central role for more than a century.
