Giants is a groove-deep tribute to the artists who shaped his musical DNA—Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, The Meters, Levon Helm, and Billy Preston. These are the giants whose grooves, melodies, and spirit have shaped Gros’ sound over decades of performing.
With support from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation and the Threadhead Cultural Foundation, the album captures classic songs that were honed night after night onstage—jammed, stretched, and refined in front of live audiences—before being recorded live at Silent S Recording Studio in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Giants is John “Papa” Gros at full throttle: reverent but fearless, steeped in tradition yet unmistakably his own—an album that honors the past by making it move, sweat, and breathe in the present.

Record Club Subscription Info
Tipitina's Record Club is a subscription-based vinyl service that brings music directly to your door every 2 months! Tipitina's Record Club releases are only available through a Tipitina's Record Club Subscription. When you subscribe you are sent the Current TRC Release, and subsequent, specially curated releases will follow every 2 months.
You can sign up for a 6-record subscription or 3-record subscription. Since we offer a new release every 2 months, the 6-record subscription lasts for 12 months, and the 3-record subscription lasts for 6 months.
All subscriptions are pre-paid for the term selected, including all shipping costs. Shipping is FREE to the lower 48 United States. Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico is $5 per shipment. International shipping rates vary greatly and change often. International shipping rates are calculated on a per-oder basis, and are displayed clearly prior to completing the checkout process.
Tipitinas' Record Club subscriptions automatically renew at the end of the subscription term, unless a "Gift/Non-Renewing" subscription is purchased. Gift/Non-Renewing subscriptions terminate at the end of the selected term. Gift/Non-Renewing subscriptions cannot be renewed or extended - they must be repurchased to continue receiving TRC releases. You will receive advance email notification when a subscription is going to end and/or renew.
You may pause or cancel your membership at any time membership by visiting your account page, under “Manage Subscriptions” or by contacting us at info@tipitinasrecordclub.com. Cancelling mid-term will keep your subscription active until all the shipments on the current subscription have been fulfilled. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for mid-term cancellations. Pause/Skip requests must be made in advance of the release date of the record you want skipped. Release dates are the first day of the month, every other month (Feb 1, Apr 1, Jun 1, Aug 1, Oct 1, Dec1). For example, if you want to skip The Feb 1 release, you must make the request BEFORE Feb 1.
