After enduring a near-fatal car accident, natural disasters, heartbreak, and years of life’s ups and downs, New Orleans-based guitarist and vocalist Steve Kelly has channeled these experiences into his 8-track debut solo album, Here’s the Thing. Coined as “Alternative Soul,” Kelly’s songwriting navigates the complexities of life’s cycles, candid struggles with mental health and the perils and pitfalls of substance abuse and addiction, and the peaks and valleys of personal relationships, ultimately delivering a message of hope and perseverance.
A fixture on the local scene where he’s a regular at clubs like Tipitina’s, the Maple Leaf and Le Bon Temps Roule, Kelly’s debut solo album, Here’s the Thing, is more Memphis soul, with its Al Green gospel vocals, gurgling B3 organ and R&B horns, than New Orleans funk, but his adopted hometown’s spirit is an indelible part of his music.
The album was produced by Robert Mercurio and the musicians include Kevin Scott (Govt. Record Club Subscription Info
Tipitina's Record Club is a subscription-based vinyl service that brings music directly to your door every 2 months! Tipitina's Record Club releases are only available through a Tipitina's Record Club Subscription. When you subscribe you are sent the Current TRC Release, and subsequent, specially curated releases will follow every 2 months.
You can sign up for a 6-record subscription or 3-record subscription. Since we offer a new release every 2 months, the 6-record subscription lasts for 12 months, and the 3-record subscription lasts for 6 months.
All subscriptions are pre-paid for the term selected, including all shipping costs. Shipping is FREE to the lower 48 United States. Shipping to Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico is $5 per shipment. International shipping rates vary greatly and change often. International shipping rates are calculated on a per-oder basis, and are displayed clearly prior to completing the checkout process.
Tipitinas' Record Club subscriptions automatically renew at the end of the subscription term, unless a "Gift/Non-Renewing" subscription is purchased. Gift/Non-Renewing subscriptions terminate at the end of the selected term. Gift/Non-Renewing subscriptions cannot be renewed or extended - they must be repurchased to continue receiving TRC releases. You will receive advance email notification when a subscription is going to end and/or renew.
You may pause or cancel your membership at any time membership by visiting your account page, under “Manage Subscriptions” or by contacting us at info@tipitinasrecordclub.com. Cancelling mid-term will keep your subscription active until all the shipments on the current subscription have been fulfilled. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for mid-term cancellations. Pause/Skip requests must be made in advance of the release date of the record you want skipped. Release dates are the first day of the month, every other month (Feb 1, Apr 1, Jun 1, Aug 1, Oct 1, Dec1). For example, if you want to skip The Feb 1 release, you must make the request BEFORE Feb 1.
